Senior Cheyenne Kudrin-Mello is our only returning wrestler at Chief Leschi, and he has a resume worth noting. Cheyenne has made himself well known by wrestlers and coaches on the western side of the state. He has been to the Mat Classic State wrestling tournament for all three years of his high school career, and he's looking to return to become a state champion in his fourth try. Last year, he pinned a wrestler at state who placed second the year before. Currently, his record is 14-0, and he has won tournaments at Emerald Ridge, Wahkiakum, and North Beach High School. He is currently ranked fifth in state at 113 pounds in the 2B classification. He has beaten a fifth-ranked wrestler from the 106 pound weight class in the first round as they wrestled in the 113 pound weight class. He has also beaten the fourth-ranked wrestler in the state at 120 pounds.
Cheyenne has been very helpful in teaching our young wrestlers. Last year, we started a middle school wrestling club, and from that, Levi Joseph and Dairion Earl-Lovejoy are incoming freshmen with a little wrestling experience. The football team has provided some interest in wrestling by adding some new wrestlers in freshman Brooklyn Smith, sophomores Isac Bennett and Larry Swift, junior Gregorio Merida, and senior Anthony Edge. Seniors Eagle Peters and Thomas Rasar have rejoined the wrestling team after being away from the sport for two years.
Our regular season ends in late January, with the post season starting the first weekend in February. We're looking at having a few wrestlers join Cheyenne at the Regional tournament that will be held at Chief Leschi in the second weekend in February. Only the top three at the Regional tournament will make it to the Mat Classic
