Every day at the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority, the employees educate, teach, and practice wellness with their patients. However, it doesn’t stop there. Many employees continue to practice wellness beyond patient care and in their own lives.

One example of this would be the employee walking groups. Several groups have formed within the last year, and when the weather permits (and sometimes when it doesn’t) employees take to the outdoors for their lunch break. Most walking groups devote 45 minutes of their lunch hour to their own physical wellness. In fact, in a recent staff wellness survey 87 people stated that the employee walking groups was the #1 thing that improves employee wellness.

PTHA also sponsors an organizational wide softball team, the “PTHA Warriors,” which play every Friday night at SERA field. Some participants are seasoned players, while others are brand new at the sport. Even so, they take part in the opportunity to do something active and healthy.

Many employees also take on other physical challenges in the community. On June 13, a group of 13 employees participated in the Sound to Narrows 12K race in Tacoma. The strenuous hills of the race course are a clear indication these employees are committed to their health and wellness!

Living a healthy, active lifestyle takes more than just talk. It takes action and commitment to wellness. The employees at PTHA are making everyday commitments to stay healthy for themselves, their families, their patients, and their community.
