As the school year progresses, one area of emphasis for the 2008-2009 school year is the recognition of staff and students. We value each person in the Chief Leschi family, and it is our goal to show our gratitude on a regular basis. Our students and staff members work very hard and that hard work has paid off in many ways. To ensure that we are continually recognizing students and staff, teams of staff members created incentive plans. Below are some of the ways that the incentive teams have planned to recognize the efforts of Chief Leschi Warriors.
Student Recognition
The Great Giveaway:
Attendance and On-Time to Class
Every two weeks, administrative staff members and counseling staff members will visit various classrooms. The first classroom that is visited that has zero student tardies for that day/period will earn the prize. Prizes include edible treats and goodies.
Positive Recognition Tickets:
Grades, Attendance and Behavior
Every day, students who are meeting academic, attendance, and/or behavioral expectations will have the opportunity to earn a Positive Recognition Ticket. Tickets can be redeemed at the Student Store (open Tuesday and Thursday at both MS and HS lunches) for a treat. Tickets are then put into a drawing in the Counseling Office, where a drawing for a prize will occur on a bi-weekly basis. If a student does not want an item from the Student Store, the ticket can be taken directly to the Counseling Office for the drawing. Winners will be announced via the intercom system at the end of the day.
START on Time! Recognition:
On Time to Class
Tickets will also be distributed every month to students who have zero tardies. These tickets will be distributed during lunch in the Four Seasons building. Like the Positive Recognition Tickets, one ticket can be redeemed at the Student Store for a select item, and will then go into the bi-weekly student drawing.
Student of the Month:
Grades, Behavior and Athletics
Each month, students from middle school and from high school have the opportunity to be selected as Student of the Month. Students are nominated and then chosen by vote by staff members. A news story will then be created by staff and students about the honored students. Students who have been chosen as Student of the Month will also have the opportunity to be randomly selected to attend the Puyallup Rotary High School Student of the Month Luncheon. T-shirts and a certificate will be given to those students as well.
Student Postcards:
Grades, Attendance and Behavior
Every day, postcards will be available to staff members to recognize students for grades, attendance, and behavior. These postcards will be mailed home after they are written.
Athletes of the Week: Athletics
Student athletes have the opportunity for recognition on a weekly basis. Athletes are chosen by coaches based on academics, athletic performance, behavior and integrity. Selected students receive a certificate and a picture with their coach. Names are also posted in the hallways of the MS/HS and are sent to the Tribal Newspaper.
Tacoma Athletic Commission: Athletics
Every month, the coaching staff of the MS/HS will select one male and one female athlete to be nominated for the Tacoma Athletic Commission Athlete of the Month. The nominated athletes will attend a luncheon at the Tacoma Elks Club, where they will also receive a certificate and t-shirt. If selected by the commission, the student will also receive a monetary award.
Staff Recognition
We value each staff member for their time, commitment and energy to our students and to our school as a whole. We currently have about five or six different ways to thank our staff members – but we would like to keep those ways a surprise! However, it does mean a lot to our staff members when they are recognized by students and community members for their hard work and devotion to our school. Please let them know that they are appreciated any way that you can. Sometimes a simple “thank you” can go a long way!
We would also like to thank the Chief Leschi School Board for their commitment to our school. School Board members are a critical part of our Chief Leschi family. Thank you, board members, for the time and energy you give to help make our school a place where all of our students can reach their fullest potential. Your positive support makes our jobs even more fulfilling.
