The Indian Health Services diabetes program “Balance Your Life and Diabetes” will start Oct. 9 There are 11 classes that are part of the program and classes will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. each Thursday. The program is free, but participants need to sign-up ahead of time. Call the clinic at (253) 593-0232 extension 534.
If you have diabetes, “Balance Your Life and Diabetes” will help you learn how to take care of your disease and learn how your health care providers can help you in this process. You will learn about foot care, tips for better blood sugars, nutrition, exercise, managing depression and many other topics. Most importantly, you will learn how to fit diabetes care into your daily life and not make it feel like a burden. You will be able to talk with other people who have diabetes, learn how others take care of their diabetes and share how you take care of your diabetes.
A journey begins with one step. Be one of the few who have the Nike N7 tennis shoe, especially designed for the Native American foot. Class participants will receive a voucher to assist in purchasing a pair of the Nike N7 tennis shoes, not available to the general public.
A chair exercise program will be held after the diabetes class at 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Anyone can do chair exercises. Each person exercises at their own level while sitting in a chair. This is a fun time to visit with others and get into better shape at the same time.
