Mr. Saryerwinnie’s sixth-grade class was very busy the past few weeks doing research and presenting information about outer space planets, constellations, comets and asteroids. “I wanted students to get experience at researching and presenting information to their classmates. They did a great job of learning how to take notes and do proper research before we ever got on the computers. But I think the hardest part for some of them was the public speaking,” Mr. Saryerwinnie said.
Mauricia, Sierra and Kim researched and presented the planet Neptune. “It was a lot of work, but it was exciting to present our planet to the class,” Mauricia said. “We did a skit and Kim was the astronaut that was flying toward Neptune.” Talitha chose to present the planet Pluto to her classmates. According to her research, Pluto is a dwarf planet and it has a moon called Charon. “I think it’s a regular planet, but some scientists think it’s a big ball of cold gas,” Talitha said durng her presentation. She even did some of here research at her aunt’s house, outside of school hours – now that’s dedication!
Nathaniel, Myron and Raven presented their planet: Saturn. They picked Saturn because they liked the rings and also wanted to know more about the planet. “We did a lot of research about Saturn in the Secret Garden at the High School building,” Raven said. Nathaniel said that even though it was a lot of work, they learned a lot about the planet and their pictures of Saturn’s rings were pretty “cool.”
“The hardest part was getting in front of my classmates and speaking,” Myron said.
